Diploma in Technical Vocational Instructor and Teacher Training (TVITT)

Overview:
Participants will be introduced to the foundation disciplines, relevant interdisciplinary courses, as well as pedagogic and androgenic methods.

The aim of this programme is directed towards meeting the needs of our instructor/teacher learners by transforming them into effective professionals in delivery, designing, developing, implementing and managing of the curricula of the MIC Institute of Technology and other vocational training programmes. Each course entails a combination of theory and practice which will ensure that the professional as well as the technical competencies of the instructor are enhanced.

Participants will be evaluated via continuous assessments including pre-tests, in-class and out - of class assignments, projects test/or examinations. Towards the end, participants will pursue a core curriculum, which will be supplemented, by elective courses and projects within their areas of specialisation.

  • Basic Counselling & Guidance Skills
  • History/Sociology of TVET
  • Educational Theory and Practice
  • Philosophy of Education (TVET Focus)
  • Practical Teaching
  • OSH
  • Introduction to Educational Research (Elective)
  • Measurement and Evaluation (Elective)

Course Duration:
The Diploma is spread over three trimesters. Each trimester will run for 15 weeks.

(Full/Part Time –735 contact hours)
Full time classes are on Fridays: 8:30 a.m.- 4:40 p.m.
Part Time classes are on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays: 4 p.m.-8 p.m.

Entry Requirements

  • Craftsman/Journeyman Certificate or equivalent OR
  • 3 CSEC General Proficiency/ GCE O' Level passes.
  • At least 2 years' experience as a TVET Instructor
  • Basic Computer skills

Train the Trainer

Overview:
The Train the Trainer Programme of TVITT Unit of the MIC Institute of Technology (MIC) was designed to provide instructors and teachers with the andragogical skills needed to effectively deliver training and thereby ensure their trainees success. This initiative would positively impact the quality of teaching in the various programmes being offered by MIC and by other Training organisations.
As the long term beneficiaries of such training, the graduates will be expected to perform at a standard above their performance and attain greater success when tested on their area of competence. The modules provided in the programme assist in a better understanding of the teacher-learning process and the most effective strategies to be used in the delivery process.
The objective of the workshop is to ensure that personnel who are responsible for trainees are well equipped to undertake the task of a professional trainer in a learning environment.


Train the Trainer Level 1

The Level 1 workshop content consists of:

  • Education VS Training (Roles and responsibilities of the Trainer)
  • How people learn?
  • Effective Communication
  • The Adult Learner
  • Instructional Techniques
  • Preparing Training objectives & Planning the Training Session
  • The Leittext Method; The DACUM Method
  • Integrating Technology with TVET
  • Classroom/Workshop Management

Level 1 Course Duration:
Forty five (45) contact hours – Level 1
Only on Tuesdays for 8 weeks (8:30am- 3:30pm)

Level 1 Entry Requirements:
• Basic Mathematics & English Language Skills
• Basic Computer Skills

Level 1 Certification:
Train-the-Trainer Level 1 Certificate.


Train the Trainer Level 2

Some of the Level 2 workshop content consists of:

  • Mentoring for Trainers
  • Emotional Intelligence for Trainers
  • Establishing a Training Programme 1 & 2
  • Develop & Pilot Test a Training Curriculum 1 & 2

Level 2 Course Duration:
Forty five (45) contact hours – Level 1
Only on Tuesdays for 8 weeks (8:30am- 3:30pm))

Level 2 Entry Requirements:
Level 1 Train-the-Trainer certificate

Level 2 Certification:
Train-the-Trainer Level 2 Certificate.
