Industrial Craft Programme (ICP)

Overview:

In 2006, the Craft courses formerly offered at the John S. Donaldson Technical Institute (JDTI), the San Fernando Technical Institute (SFTI) and the Government Vocational Centre (GVC) were placed under the management of MIC-IT. In 2008, the programme was relocated to MIC-IT Technology Centres and renamed as Industrial Craft Programme (ICP).

The ICP is designed to fill the gap between the unskilled and the skilled industry-ready craftsman, and to provide graduates with skills and competencies in their chosen occupational field to enter the world of work and contribute effectively to the economy while gaining an income.

Course Duration:

Two (2) Years: Full-Time

Part-Time ONLY available at the following centres for ONLY the stated courses:

  • Diego Martin Technology Centre (Jewellery Craft and Tailoring Craft ONLY)
  • Laventille Technology Centre (Plumbing and Bookbinding ONLY)
  • Tobago Technology Centre General Draughtsmanship, Auto and Diesel, Welding, Air Condition and Refrigeration, Electrical and Plumbing ONLY)

Cost:

Government Funded (Free for Citizens of Trinidad and Tobago). 

Entry Requirements:

  • At least 3 C.X.C passes with General Proficiency Grades (1, 2 or 3) or GCE ‘O’ Levels (A, B or C) including English Language and Mathematics, a Science subject will be an asset.
    **If you do not have the above:  Applicants will be subjected to an entrance examination at the Institution.

For General Draughtsmanship:

  • At least 3 C.X.C passes with General Proficiency Grades (1, 2 or 3) or GCE ‘O’ Levels (A, B or C) passes in English Language, Mathematics and Technical drawing.

All Applicants:

  • National/ Resident of Trinidad and Tobago
  • Minimum age of Sixteen (16) years
  • Copy of Identification Card
  • Copy of Birth Certificate
  • Utility Bill
  • 2 Passport sized Photos


Certification upon completion:

  • A National Examinations Council (NEC) Trinidad and Tobago National Vocational Qualification (TTNVQ) Level 2 Certificate.
     
  • City and Guilds Proficiency Certificate (Only for Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Craft, Auto and Diesel, Food Preparation & Culinary Arts and Plumbing Courses).
     
  • Certification upon completion for General Draughtsmanship: TTNVQ Level 3 (NEC Diploma)
  • Craft Certificate awarded by MIC Institute of Technology, Level 2.

    Part- time (Jewellery Craft and Tailoring Craft ONLY) 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
     
  • Government Vocational Centre: Full-time ONLY : 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
     
  • Laventille Technology Centre: Full-time 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.;
    Part-time (Bookbinding and Plumbing ONLY) 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
     
  • Macoya Workforce Development Centre (MWDC): Full-time ONLY: 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
     
  • Pleasantville Technology Centre: Full-time ONLY: 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
     
  • Penal Technology Centre: Full-time ONLY: 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
     
  • Tobago Technology Centre: Full time: 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.;
    Part-time (General Draughtsmanship, Auto and Diesel, Welding, Air Condition and Refrigeration, Electrical and Plumbing ONLY) 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
