Engineering

Since the Company’s inception, more than four decades ago, it was granted the honoured role of fostering growth within the local and regional Industrial Sector through Innovation, Manufacturing and Engineering services.  The foundation of the success of MIC Institute of Technology is partly accomplished from the contributions of the Industry Services Division. This   Division comprises of the following; Workshop, Plastics, Designs and Engineering, Marketing and Business Development and Quality, Health and Safety. Central to these functional areas is the Designs and Engineering Department, which plays an essential role in MIC’s manufacturing operations and its business objectives.

The Engineering Department comprises three main functional areas:

  • Engineering Design
  • Engineer In Training Programme
  • New Product Development and Innovation

Through these core areas it operates as an Internal Service Provider for:

  • Conducting research into new technologies, systems and processes
  • New Product Development and Innovation assisted with the use of advanced computer software and prototyping equipment 
  • Providing engineering solutions towards improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the various manufacturing operations
  • Training of Engineers, Technicians and Craftsmen. 

Through these core areas, it also operates as an External Service Provider for:

  • Engineering consultancy services to companies in terms of:
  • Mechanizing and automating plant systems to improve efficiency and productivity
  • Providing solutions through value analysis and methods engineering to reduce production cost and improve output
  • Designing of Jigs and Fixtures, Moulds, Tool and Die, precision parts and equipment
  • Design and development of new “Home Grown Technologies”
  • Managing the research, design, development and implementation of special projects of National importance.

The Engineering Department also plays an essential role in providing training for engineers, and conducts an Engineer in Training (EIT) Programme.  This is a two year Manufacturing Engineering Programme designed to expose graduate Engineers to practical and advanced techniques in Manufacturing and takes each graduate through a process of development and transformation to produce an Engineer who is ready for industry. 

It comprises five modules:

  • Module 1:   Basic Engineering
  • Module 2:   Industrial Maintenance Systems
  • Module 3:   Production Engineering
  • Module 4:   Design Engineering
  • Module 5:   Industrial Projects
